I have been writing since I was a child. My tales of woe and joy ranged from hilarious adventures of secret worlds starring my cousins, fantasy stories that would shame Tolkien (I KID!), faery worlds, apocalyptic futures, fan-fiction, non-fiction, science-fiction, the list goes on. I just love to write.
HOWEVER, I never called myself a writer. I would say I’m an “aspiring writer” with a little blush and awkward ring of the hands. That was until the day I saw a post on Facebook. A successful screenwriter said, “Stop saying you’re an aspiring writer. If you write, you’re a writer.”
It was like a lightbulb went off. I was a writer! Suddenly, I stopped trying to write. Once I got past that invisible hurdle blocking my path to being an author, the floodgates opened.
Now – because I’m not working to be a writer- I can focus on actually writing! I’m finally tapping into the creative well of my soul and pulling out buckets full of characters, plots, dialogues, and W O R D S. I have the itch. The itch to write and create and weave tales.
Are you a writer? If so – write.
We each have unique voices that are destined to tell tales that reach different people in different ways.
You are no longer aspiring, you simply are. So be.
